Each year, the Metropolitan Museum of Art celebrates the launch of the Costume Institute’s Spring Exhibition by holding a gala that is famously called the MET ball. At the helm of the MET ball is none other than the authority of fashion, Vogue’s editor-in-chief Anna Wintour. This automatically qualifies the event as the most important and anticipated fashion event of the year. It’s easily described as the ‘Oscars of Fashion’, but it’s more than that. The event shines a spotlight on fashion as an important art form. This year’s theme is “Manus x Machina: Fashion in an Age of Technology,” explores the relationship between handmade and machine-produced fashion. Fashion designers took this opportunity to showcase their creative interpretation of the dress code of ‘tech white tie’. The result ranged from futuristic gladiator looks to modern Cinderella. I’ve rounded up some of my favorite looks of the evening.

On top of my list and a creation that will go down in fashion history at the MET Gala is Claire Danes’ Zac Posen dress. She shined the brightest with a one-of-a-kind dress, which has fiber optics that allowed the dress to light up in the dark. Beyonce also caused quite a stir with her skin-tight nude latex embellished gown from Givenchy. Taylor Swift debuted her new bleached hair look at the MET gala. The singer is one of the co-chairs at the event and brought serious fashion with her metallic silver dress and gladiator style boots.

The Kardashian sisters Kim, Kendall and Kylie took the red carpet decked out in shiny silver creations. The sister that stole the spotlight however, is supermodel Kendall Jenner in her barely-there Versace number. Another celebrity that was decked out in Atelier Versace is Kate Hudson. The actress rocked an impressive peel-a-boo laser-cut mermaid gown juxtaposed with a flowing accordion train.

Other honorable mentions include Kate Bosworth in a goddess-like Dolce & Gabanna creation, Blake Lively in a custom-made pink Burberry creation, Kim Kardashian’s sexy robot-like Balmain dress, and Alicia Vikander in Louis Vuitton. Check out my best-dressed list in the image gallery.
